Comprehensive Licensing Information to Minimize Barriers Legislation

occupational licensing header

Occupational licensing requirements, intended to protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare, now affect over 400 professions in Illinois. These requirements make it difficult for anyone wanting a new profession or moving to Illinois who needs a license to continue in their current profession. These requirements also make it harder for businesses to fill open positions. Last year, the SBAC and the IJ Clinic championed legislation that created the Comprehensive Licensing Information to Minimize Barriers (CLIMB) task force to study the problem and report back to the General Assembly. We are pleased to report that the CLIMB task force has held several meetings this spring. We look forward to their report this fall. If Illinois' occupational licensing requirements are making it difficult for your business to fill open positions, please share your story with us at emma@sbacil.org
