Administrative Hearing Reform

Through the collective efforts of the SBAC and our City Coalition with the City of Chicago, we have:

  • Modified the process for obtaining public way use permits;
  • Clarified rules related to window signs; and
  • Made it significantly easier to launch and grow a home-based business.

We are now excited to announce another win for Chicago’s small business community! The City of Chicago has launched a pre-pay option for fines to eliminate the need for business owners to hire an attorney and attend administrative hearings when issued a citation for certain ordinance violations. Instead of attending a hearing with an attorney, business owners can now simply come into compliance with certain ordinances and pay the fine. Violations included in the pilot program are: failure to display license, no limited business license, sales tax overcharge, and price marking and display.
