Last week, more than twenty SBAC members and leadership made the trip to Springfield for our annual SBAC Lobby Day.
For our organization, the focus of the trip is concrete advocacy – educating elected officials about our agenda and the needs of the small business community. The SBAC met with Governor Pritzker, Lt. Governor Stratton, Senate Republic Leader Brady, House Republican Leader Durkin and representatives from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. SBAC Members also had the chance to meet with their local legislators.
The timing of this trip provided the SBAC with the best opportunity to promote some of our key initiatives, including reauthorizing the Small Business Job Creation Tax Credit and enacting common-sense reforms to the occupational licensing process.
One of the biggest take-aways from the trip is that the SBAC is a known entity to lawmakers and agency staff. We may still be relatively new compared to other organizations, but as we continue to achieve real policy change, we build momentum toward taking on the biggest challenges facing our state.
